Rebecca Rhode started her career in television and film in Los Angeles where she was born and raised. Her first opportunity working for a network T.V. show came while she was waiting tables at an upscale restaurant and also interning at Time Warner Communications. She befriended a patron who had a brother-in-law that had his own production company and that did freelance audio for “Access Hollywood”. He was testing for a camera position at Access and needed an audio person. He called on Becky to do sound and the rest was history.
“Access Hollywood” launched her career in television and film and doing sound in the field enabled her to network and meet future clients. With a few key clients under her belt Rebecca put together an impressive resume that later landed her a staff audio position for The Learning Channel. Post audio engineers at The Learning Channel took notice of Rebecca’s consistent mic placement and exceptionally clean audio in the field that soon afforded her a great reputation that she carries with her today. While acquiring accolades for her work she realized that this was a form of self-expression; it was her passion. This love for audio took years to develop and shooting camera was what she had her eyes on since day one.
Raised by artist/musician parents her visual and audio environment inspired Rebecca to become an artist and musician herself. Studying classical voice at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Canada, and playing several instruments gave her an ear for audio. As an art major in college, she honed her already strong artistic skills and developed an eye for composition, a key element required for shooting camera. Coming from an artistic and musical background contributed to her skills in the medium of television and film. A chance and life changing opportunity came when a writer/friend asked Rebecca to shoot camera for a show he was writing and producing for The Discovery Channel at NASA Langley in Hampton, Virginia. It was on that shoot that she met her future husband and that Rebecca would relocate to the east coast.
Since Rebecca’s move to Virginia she has worked for various prestigious clients such as National Geographic, Discovery Health, and The Learning Channel to name a few. She has also engineered, mixed, and recorded sound for an independent feature film “Thunder Over Reno”, a project that would become her most challenging and rewarding opportunity in her career.
“The equipment that I choose for any given shoot directly correlates with the application and the needs of the client. The ending question to myself is, “What do I have to do to get the best audio?” Acquiring the best audio is my bottom line.” -Rebecca Rhode
